A High-Performance large loudspeaker kit featuring the SEAS Excel drivers T27GL001-DXT, M64F001 and W22NY003

Introducing SEAS Storeglimt—a high-performance loudspeaker kit that combines the best of SEAS' Excel driver technology with a classic wide-baffle, three-way design.

Storeglimt is a name with Norwegian roots: store means "large," reflecting the speaker's wide-baffle enclosure, while Glimt is borrowed from the SEAS tweeter that crowns this design.

Drivers
The SEAS Excel woofer E0097-08 W22NY003 was chosen because it delivers the effortless scale, dynamics, and refinement that define a truly exceptional large loudspeaker. Its advanced paper cone technology preserves the natural timbre and musicality for which paper drivers are renowned, while the highly optimized motor system keeps distortion exceptionally low, even at realistic listening levels. The result is deep, authoritative bass, an open and expressive midrange, and the kind of effortless presentation that only a carefully engineered large-format design can achieve.

At the heart of Storeglimt is the SEAS Excel midrange dome E0103-06 M64F001, chosen for its exceptional ability to reproduce the most critical part of the audible spectrum with remarkable clarity and naturalness. Voices and instruments are rendered with lifelike presence, effortless dynamics, and outstanding transparency, creating a seamless connection between the powerful bass and the delicate high frequencies. Its advanced neodymium motor system and carefully engineered dome deliver exceptionally low distortion and wide bandwidth, making it the ideal partner in a no-compromise three-way design where tonal accuracy and musical realism are paramount.

Crowning the Storeglimt is the SEAS Glimt tweeter, E0102-06 T27GL001-DXT, selected for its extraordinary clarity, speed, and effortless refinement. Its unique glass dome diaphragm combines exceptional stiffness with low mass, revealing the finest musical detail while maintaining a natural, unforced presentation. Together with the advanced DXT® waveguide technology, the Glimt delivers remarkably consistent dispersion and a broad, stable soundstage, ensuring every listener enjoys the same precise imaging and tonal balance. The result is a treble presentation that is both exquisitely detailed and remarkably smooth.

Enclosure
The woofers have a 100L ported enclosure with dual ports, while the midrange and tweeter have a rear chamber, so they don't need a separate enclosure. Internal bracing is added to the enclosure to reduce the panel resonances and to provide a stiff structure for the drivers. The ports are tuned to 28Hz to give a good low frequency extension for a full bodied sound.

On top of the internal bracing and between the two ports there is a 50mm layer of Basotect foam. This is a very light and open foam that will help to reduce the internal reflections and midrange leakage to the ports. The area behind the woofers is lightly filled with a polyester foam damping material. Most distributors have a version of the polyester foam and they come with many different brand names: Acousto-Q, Acoustilux, Acousta-Stuf and so on. The sketch below shows the amount and placement of the damping material. The exact weight might be different from the different vendors, but you should fill the marked area lightly and leave some space around the drivers. The Basotect material is not that esaily available, but it can be replaced with wool felt or similar materials.

We've designed the ports for 3D printing. Doing this helps us to get a better air flow through them, than what you will achieve with a traditional port. We've included a STP file of the port in the documentation. The port must in most printers be printed in two parts and glued together. If you don't have acces to 3D printing, you can use a straight port. The recommended dimensions are Ø7cm with 24cm length, or use a simulation software to find the correct length for your port diameter.

Crossover
In the crossover design we aimed for a smooth and slightly falling response in the listening window while maintaining good phase tracking between the drivers. The listening window is here defined as the average response within 0-30 degree off axis. You have the option of a classic passive crossover or an active crossover. The active crossover is designed to be used with a 6-channel amplifier and the FlexEight unit from miniDSP, but could also be ported to other dsp platforms. The picturtes below show the setup of the different crossover options. In the setup files for the miniDSP we have also added preset 3 that adds a shelving filter to further boost the low end for the bass hungry listeners.

The VituixCad file and the measurements of the drivers are available to download. Then the advanced DIYer can further tune the crossover to their liking or try other topologies.

Below you can find a suggested layout for the crossover.

The next graph shows the off-axis response. Here we can see a controlled and wide off-axis dispersion. Then we know that the room reflections also have a smooth frequency response so that we get a large and natural sound stage.

The harmonic distortion is shown in the last graph below. Here we have set the on-axis SPL to be 96dB averaged from 100Hz-10kHz. Then we can see that this speaker has a nice low distortion without any large peaks that stand out, even at a high SPL output.

Listening Room and Placement
High quality stands should be used to position the tweeter approximately at, or slightly above, ear level. Even in well-designed listening rooms, it is important to find the optimal placement where the loudspeakers perform best. Positioning the cabinets near walls or corners will enhance bass output but may also cause irregularities in the bass/midrange region. Some experimentation is recommended to find a position and toe-in angle that provide balanced tonality, a well-defined soundstage, and minimal coloration.
